Carter’s Mountain Road Farm; Charlottesville, Virginia
One of our favorite contractors recommended us for the design of the landscape of the new main house to these clients. Their farm is sandwiched between those of past presidents and is across the street from a beautiful vineyard. The mile-long driveway passes by ponds, former pastures, and well maintained mature oak forests.
We have great relationships with our clients, but this couple is one of our favorites. Similar to their personalities, their new house is understated on the outside and masterfully crafted and designed inside.
Our design goal was to maintain this spirit by keeping our touch on the site light, to not disturb existing oaks, make the house feel as though it had always been there, and add pops of color throughout the year. We did this using only shrubs and trees planted around the property.
Our work included designing the driveway, terraces around the house, stone paths and steps, and planting.
